We’re excited to announce that we’re offering two paid webinars next month on how to use screen readers to test websites for accessibility.
The two webinars will each follow the same format, though one will be focused on using NVDA, a free open-source screen reader for Windows computers, and the other on using VoiceOver, the screen reader included on Macs and iOS.
Instruction for each webinar will cover the following:
- Screen reader settings and recommended configuration
- Helpful keyboard shortcuts
- How to use the screen reader to navigate a web page
- Using the screen reader to find accessibility problems
There will be a 1-hour and 45-minute presentation followed by time for Q&A at the end.
The webinars will be held via Zoom with live captions (typed by a professional captioner) and a transcript. Registrants will be provided with access to the recorded webinar and transcript following the live session.
Who are these webinars for?
These webinars are intended for website designers, developers, content creators, agency owners, and anyone interested in learning how to use screen readers for accessibility testing. No prior technical skills or accessibility knowledge is required.
Please note that the respective screen readers are operating system specific, so attendees will want to attend the webinar for the screen reader that matches their computer (Windows or Mac).
About The Instructor
The webinars will be taught by Nicholas Corbett, Accessibility, Training, and Research Coordinator at The Carroll Center for the Blind.
Nicholas “Nick” Corbett has been with the Carroll Center since 2017 when he joined its Rehabilitation team as a Technology Skills Instructor and Project Specialist. In 2021, he transitioned into the role of Accessibility Training and Research Coordinator. Nick is an advanced screen reader user and instructor of accessibility software across Microsoft, Google, and Apple products. He enables others to communicate in a language that users and developers of digital resources can understand and promotes employment and opportunities in the digital accessibility space for people with visual impairments.
Nick is an excellent instructor who does a great job of explaining keyboard interactions as he goes. For an example of his teaching style, view the recording of Nick’s WordPress Accessibility Meetup presentation on Training Screen Reader User Testers.
