Hosting & Maintenance FAQs
What are manual post-update spot checks?
Updates are run automatically twice weekly on all websites we host. In addition to automated visual regression testing, Expansion plan customer websites are also spot-checked by a human after automatic updates run. Our spot checks are unique for each site, based on its functionality and purpose. This approach balances the risk of a security incident (due to out-of-date software) with the risk of technical issues resulting from updates. If a technical issue is manually detected during a spot check, we will reverse the update and investigate the issue.
Why are the Startup and Growth plans less ideal for complex websites?
Simply put, the more complex a website is, the more likely an update-related issue will not be detected through automated visual regression tests. We designed the Expansion plan specifically for eCommerce websites, WordPress multisites, portals, and other web applications that benefit greatly from a human performing spot-checks after updates are run. This approach ensures updates are run consistently and that any issues are detected quickly, while still ensuring that the website remains secure with frequent software updates.
What is your support response time?
We respond to the vast majority support requests within 1 business day and depending upon the nature of the request, we will resolve it within five business days or less. A request that qualifies as urgent is typically solved the same business day. We provide a more detailed table of support query levels and average response times in our Terms of Service.
Do unused support hours roll over?
No, unused support hours do not roll over to subsequent months. Our support hours are included at a discounted rate when compared to Equalize Digital’s standard a la carte hourly rate. The discount exists as an incentive to pre-pay which allows us to better plan our team’s availability and ensure we’re here when you need us.
Can I pre-pay for additional support hours at a discounted rate?
Yes, if you know that you will need more than two hours of development or content support per month, we can build a custom support plan for you. We have customers on custom support retainers ranging from 4-30+ hours per month. Please contact us for special pricing.
Can I change my package?
Yes, you can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your package with just 30 days notice to us.
There is no cancellation fee, and we’ll provide a zip backup of your website at no charge if you decide to change your hosting provider.
Will you support more than one website?
Yes. At a minimum, each site will have the “Startup” hosting package. If you select a higher-level plan with support hours included for one of the websites, you are welcome to divide those tasks between any other sites on your plan as needed.
Do you support websites that you did not build?
Websites that we did not build are evaluated for eligibility on an individual basis. Our decision to support a website we did not build depends on numerous factors, including the content of the website, how the website was built, and overall compatibility with our server. In most cases, a setup fee will be added to cover time spent evaluating and preparing a website for transfer to our server.
