Senior Plugin Developer Job Description
Senior Plugin Developers at Equalize Digital are responsible for creating and maintaining the custom code that goes into our freemium WordPress plugin Accessibility Checker, and other WordPress plugins that we own.
This role works closely with numerous stakeholders, including our executive team, investors, customers, the broader WordPress community, and their colleagues, to create world-class accessibility tools that are used by thousands of people globally. This role may eventually expand to software product development projects outside of WordPress CMS.

What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with our CTO and CEO to brainstorm solutions to development challenges within Accessibility Checker.
- Prototype and iterate on new features alongside our CTO, and other developers on the team.
- Write readable, secure, accessible, testable, and standards-compliant code, proactively helping to modernize and upgrade the existing code base over time.
- Communicate via Basecamp and Github to keep team members appraised on task status or issues as they arise.
- Respond to escalated plugin support requests requiring strong technical assistance.
- Be a key team member in helping to significantly grow the Accessibility Checker user base and create a market-leading product.
Essential Skills
- Experienced full-stack developer with advanced skills in both front-end and back-end development. (HTML, SCSS, PHP, Javascript, SQL, React or Vue, etc.)
- Experience developing WordPress plugins or themes and seeing them through to release.
- Familiarity with WordPress core architecture, WordPress coding standards, and the WordPress block editor (Gutenberg).
- Proficiency with the WordPress REST API and creating custom API endpoints.
- Ability to efficiently troubleshoot plugin, theme, and server environment conflicts.
- Understanding of and commitment to accessibility best practices and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- Committed to writing high-quality code that is scalable, maintainable, and efficient.
- Able to research, identify, and test solutions independently.
- Routinely utilizes linters, scanners, and other preventive tools to detect and squash bugs.
Experience & Education
- Minimum 4 years of software development experience.
- Previous experience developing WordPress themes or plugins in a lead role is highly desirable.
- Nice to have: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or code bootcamp certificate.

Compensation
$74k – $108k Salary. Specific compensation will fall within this range based on individual experience and the local cost of living in your home country.
