The Future of WordPress Accessibility Meetup

Article PublishedJune 25, 2025Last UpdatedJune 25, 2025 Written byAmber Hinds

Help shape the future of meetup. Take our survey.

Since 2021, the WordPress Accessibility Meetup has been a place for learning, sharing, and building a more accessible web together. We’re proud of the incredible community that has formed around these events and the many experts who have generously shared their knowledge twice a month with our audience.

We have held 96 meetups over the past 4 years, regularly meeting twice a month on the First Thursday at 10 AM US Central and on the Third Monday at 7 PM US Central. These times were intentionally selected to give us the broadest global coverage and to make the meetup work for as many people as possible worldwide.

Looking Ahead…

As we near our 100th meetup and start our fifth year, we’re reflecting on what’s working (and not working) about meetup and are considering making some changes, particularly around the Monday meetup.

We want to be transparent: it has become increasingly difficult to find guest speakers for our First Monday meetups. While we’re always happy to share what we know, it’s never been our intention to speak at every session ourselves. The goal has always been to elevate a variety of voices in the accessibility space.

With the difficulty in finding speakers and comparatively lower attendance for the Monday meetup, we’re considering cancelling it or changing the day and time.

Survey: Tell Us What You Want

As we think about the future of this particular meetup, we’d love to hear from you. Should we continue the First Monday session? Would a different day or time work better for speakers and attendees? Please take this anonymous survey and let us know what you think.

This “Day” meetup takes place at 5 PM CEST and 8:30 PM IST on the first Thursday of the month. It is 1 AM AEST on the first Friday of the month.
This “Monday evening” meetup in the US takes place at 2 AM CEST, 5:30 AM IST and 10 AM AEST on the third Tuesday of the month.
Do you think it is important for us to continue holding a meetup that is in the evening hours for the US but during work hours for Asia Pacific?(Required)
Should we change the time or day of the Third Monday meetup?(Required)
Please be as detailed as possible, including timezones and week of the month.
Would you be interested in speaking at meetup?(Required)
