Equalize Digital, a leader in WordPress accessibility solutions, is proud to announce the release of a brand new online course earlier this month: NVDA Screen Reader Testing for Windows.
About the Course
This course provides website developers, designers, and testers with practical guidance on how to use the free NVDA screen reader to evaluate the accessibility of websites and digital products.
Taught by Equalize Digital CEO Amber Hinds, the course takes a hands-on, structured approach to screen reader testing using NVDA and builds on the success of the VoiceOver Screen Reader Testing on Mac course released earlier this year. Together, these two courses offer accessibility testing training for the most widely used screen readers on both Mac and Windows platforms.
“I created this course to empower more people to understand what users of assistive technology experience and to help them confidently identify accessibility issues using free tools like NVDA,” said Hinds. “Even if you’re not an accessibility expert, screen reader testing is something you can do, and should do, on every project.”
The course includes 35 video lessons, downloadable resources, and real-world testing examples, making it a valuable learning experience for anyone looking to create more inclusive digital experiences. Topics include installing and configuring NVDA, screen reader basics, navigating web content with NVDA keyboard shortcuts, identifying common accessibility issues, and interpreting NVDA output when testing interactive components.
The following interactive components are included with both good and bad examples:
- HTML Landmark Regions
- Navigation Menus
- Breadcrumbs
- Accordions
- Blockquotes
- Carousels
- Tabs
- Tables
- Modal Dialogs and Pop-ups
- Content Groups and Pagination
- Search and Filters
- Forms
The NVDA Screen Reader Testing for Windows course is available now in the Equalize Digital Learning Library, and lifetime access can be purchased for $147.
